FIRE SAFETY INFORMATION

As you also know, Hotel Sandra Youth Hostel being a 9-storey building is extremely flammable, despite the fact that the building has a smoke alarm and an automatic fire-extinguishing–(sprinkler) system.

Smoking and other fire-causing activities are strictly forbidden in the whole building! The designated smoking area is outside when you are facing the entrance on the right side.

Furthermore, it is forbidden to cover, refit or damage the fire and smoke detectors!

What to do when detecting fire?
When a small fire of a few square meters is detected, start extinguishing the fire with the fire extinguishers placed nearby. Every hallway is equipped with a fire extinguisher and a wall hydrant.

Location of the fire extinguishers is indicated by the following board:

Location of the wall hydrants is indicated by the following board:

Please note that you can only extinguish electrical fire with a powder extinguisher.

In case you find the starting of extinguishing unsafe, the person noticing the fire or the imminent danger thereof (e.g. strong smoke production, large amounts of combustible gas leakage)
is obliged to immediately report it to the fire department by dialling the general emergency number 105 or 112,
furthermore, the reception of the Youth Hotel must be notified as well (reception phone number: 42 / 440-013 or by internal phone 5130);
moreover, every person in your immediate vicinity must be notified of the fire,
you need to leave the room and lock the doors;
get dressed and go to a designated staircase as soon as possible, – you must not use the elevator,
follow the instructions of the professionals.

What should you tell about the fire to the firefighters?
The person should be calm when reporting fire and tell the data with a clear voice.
Where did the incident take place? (Hotel Sandra Youth Hostel Sóstói út 31/B, floor …., room number ……)
What happened? What’s at risk? Briefly describe the situation!
How many people were injured, are there any injured person? Is human life in danger?
The name of the reporting person.
The telephone number of the phone used for reporting.

How can the fire be indicated to the people in the building and to those around us?
The easiest way of indicating fire is to activate the manual alarm of the built-in fire alarm equipment!

The breakglass needs to be pushed in!

What should I do if someone else has detected the fire?
I can receive information about the fire occurring in the facility by word of mouth and by the siren of the built-in weak-current fire alarm system.

In case I am informed about the fire and the siren sounds, I must go to the ground floor through the designated fire escape routes and stairs according to the Fire Alarm Plan as soon as possible; I must leave the building and go to a designated safe gathering place outside.

The fire alarm equipment may give out a false alarm, i.e. without fire present. However, either because of dust, heat or something else, the sensor indicates a fire to the centre or someone is unduly using the manual alarm.

It is not possible to evaluate from the sign, whether it is a false or a real alarm. It may take several minutes for the colleagues to thoroughly inspect the exact location and determine if there was a fire or the system gave out a false alarm. In the case of an alarm initiated by the siren of the fire alarm equipment, the site must always be left in accordance with the instructions set out in the Fire Alarm Plan.

Between the two buildings there are fire- and smoke compartmentation doors, controlled by the fire alarm system; in case of a fire alarm, they close automatically and they can be opened in the direction of the evacuation route. The fire alarm system in the smoke-free staircase (staircase B) also initiates the artificial ventilation

What should you do in case of smoke?
The combustion gases generated by the fire are hot, thus they are ascending. These gases then accumulate in the uppermost layer of air in the room and they become hotter and hotter. If they reach their ignition point, the spread of the fire accelerates rapidly, thus – you have to escape quickly – move forward near the flooring under the smoke, – in a room filled with smoke, put something (e.g. a wet cloth, towel, etc.) in front of your mouth and nose, – you must not deal with saving of the valuable items.

What should you do when a person is locked in a room or area?
If there is time, close the doors separating them from the fire: open the door/window to the hallway or to the outside only aft this, otherwise the combustion may enhance.
Shout for help and consider alternative escape routes
Draw the attention of the firefighter conducting the rescue by hanging a piece of clothing at the window.

The building must be left through the stairs, because the elevators do not work in case of fire. The so-called. Building B (9-storeys) can be exited through staircase “C” (fire escape) or staircase “B” (pressurised staircase); building A can be left through the staircase of building A.

It is forbidden to use the elevator while leaving the building!

It is forbidden to leave the designated safe gathering place until the chief fire fighter commences extinguishing measures! Returning back to the building without permission is forbidden!

Health and safety:
The most important rule of health and safety is to use everything as intended! E.g. stairs for traffic, electrical devices according to their intended use.

Only use functional electrical devices having undamaged housing!

In case any device owned by a Youth Hotel fails, it must be recorded in the so-called defect list booklet. No one should begin to repair the defective device.

It is forbidden and life-threatening to use a defective electrical device with damaged housing and/or wiring!
It is not allowed to use electrical devices while showering or bathing!
It is forbidden to throw anything out of the window.
It’s forbidden to lean out of the windows or sunbathe at them.
When checking in at the Youth Hotel, everyone receives a personal magnetic key card, allowing you to move around within the building. This card is non-transferable and cannot be lent. Only the card owner is allowed to use this card!
If you notice any defects in the hotel (e.g. faulty tap or wall socket), do not try to repair it but report your observations at the front desk or by calling 5130.
Only the dedicated board may be decorated within the rooms.

It is strictly forbidden to pick the sprinkler heads in the building or hang anything onto them!
No loud noises and music are allowed in the building!
In case someone is injured, the so-called first aid kit can be found at the Hotel reception
The waste should preferably be taken down to the waste storage room on a daily basis!
